Kimono rack and alcove
Edo period, 19th century
woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigment and embossing, depicting an alcove (tokonama) decorated for the New Year with a koto, kakemono, sprig of plum blossom and a kimono hanging at left on a rack (iko) with a pine shoot pattern, signed Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga (Pictured by Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi), and with printer’s seal Suriko Shinzo, privately issued for the Drum Group Poetry Circle (Taikogawa-ren), circa early 1830s, poems by Toshiro Fusando and Keikaen Hidemaru; with collector's seal of Gerhard Pulverer to verso
