Ryuryukyo Shinsai (1764-1820)

Two surimono

Edo period, 19th century


each a woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigment and embossing, signed Shinsai, privately issued; each with collector's seal of Gerhard Pulverer to verso, and comprising:


- Blue (Ao): Woman with puppet, from the series The Five Colours (Goshiki no uchi), privately issued, circa 1820

- Elderly man with hoe and karako performing on a stage, sealed Ryusai


Each shikishiban surimono: each approx. 20.5 x 18.1 cm., 8⅛ x 7⅛ in.
