Introduced at Basel in 1976, the Patek Philippe Nautilus was designed by Gérald Genta to become the sports watch for a brand defined by its complicated dress watches. The Nautilus 3700, known as the ‘Jumbo’ for its 42 mm case size, draws inspiration from the portholes on a ship. Its complex bezel shape took full advantage of the masterful polishing work that Patek Philippe is known for, with fine brushing, beveling, and detailing.

The first-generation Nautilus introduced several other important features. Firstly, it was powered by the ultra-thin automatic caliber 28-255 C, which remains the thinnest automatic movement with a center rotor ever produced. It also introduced the now-iconic integrated bracelet with brushed links and polished center links. This thin bracelet is one of the most comfortable sport bracelets ever made.

Its production lasted until the 1990s, and though over 7,000 examples of the reference 3700 were made, fewer than 1,150 timepieces were produced in yellow gold—making a yellow gold Nautilus highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts. While it’s identical in every way to its stainless-steel stablemate, the weight and use of yellow gold make all the difference in completely changing the character of the watch.

It is considered one of the most iconic and recognizable luxury watches in the world and would be an incredible addition to any collection. We are pleased to offer this piece from the family of Former New York Yankee and member of the Hall of Fame Waite Hoyt.
