Introduced in the late 1960s, the Tank Allongée offered a refined reinterpretation of Cartier’s original Tank design. Extending the proportions of the classic rectangular case, the model emphasised the clean lines and restrained geometry that had come to define Cartier’s watchmaking style.
During this period, Cartier collaborated with Swiss specialists such as Bueche-Girod to produce a small number of precious-metal wristwatches for its international clientele. The present example, dating from around 1970, bears Bueche-Girod signatures to the case and movement, confirming its Geneva manufacture. Its elongated yellow-gold case and white Roman-numeral dial reflect the discreet elegance characteristic of Cartier’s designs from this era.
A personal engraving to the case back adds an intimate note to this finely executed watch - a reminder of the enduring connection between Cartier’s creations and their original owners. Less frequently encountered than the Tank Louis Cartier, the Tank Allongée represents a thoughtful evolution of one of Cartier’s most recognisable forms. This example offers a well-balanced expression of early 1970s design, distinguished by its simplicity, proportion and enduring appeal.
