Introduced in 1972, the Audemars Piguet reference 5402 is nothing short of a masterpiece. Conceived by Gérald Genta, its bold octagonal bezel, exposed screws and integrated bracelet were executed with an unprecedented level of finishing, making it the most costly stainless-steel watch of its era. Bearing the nickname "Jumbo", the case is 39 mm in diameter which is colossal in comparison to the dress watches of the 70s.
The present example, dating from 1983, is crafted in yellow gold and features Audemars Piguet's signature petite tapisserie dial that was flawlessly created by a precision metalwork chisel, forming the futuristic, and most unprecedented watch across the industry. Introduced around 1978, the yellow gold and two-tone variants were numbered sequentially rather than by the A-D series used for steel examples, with fewer than 750 pieces believed to have been produced. This reference 5402BA presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most coveted executions of the Royal Oak in good condition.
