The original Tortue was introduced in 1906 and just two years after the first men's wristwatch was invented. Its tonneau-shaped case bears a strong resemblance to the Art-Deco period's aesthetic, which is highly sought after in today's market.
The current watch is part of the Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP) launched in 1998, which was inspired by Cartier's historical designs. The magic happens inside the Tortue Monopoussoir as it is powered by the calibre 045MC, manufactured by THA Ebauche founded in 1996 when horological geniuses Vianney Halter, Denis Flageollet, and François-Paul Journe partnered together to create the incredible movement.
The beauty and elegance of the dial of the 2356 relies in the harmony of its design, with a sophisticated combination of circles, from the outer rail track, the concentric signature Roman numerals closed by an inner circle and the two subsidiary dials for the constant seconds and minute recorder. Cased in a warm and precious yellow gold case, this 2356 symbolizes the timeless elegance of Cartier.
