The iconic design of the Nautilus was created by Gerald Genta. He had a crucial influence on the watch world thanks to some of his famous designs, which also included the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in 1972. Genta’s design for the Nautilus was inspired by portholes on ships. The first iteration of the Nautilus was the reference 3700, which was released in 1976. At the time, it was a ground-breaking approach, especially considering the quartz crisis hitting the traditional Swiss industry. Watch brands such as Patek Philippe felt the need to offer something different. Ultimately this audacious move paid off and the Nautilus quickly became a central piece in many collections.

In 2006, 30 years after the initial release of the Nautilus ‘Jumbo’, Patek introduced the reference 5711/1A which became an instant success subject to an extensive waiting list.

Besides this standard version, Patek Philippe produced some highly exclusive 5711 in platinum. There were made for elite collectors. Market research would indicate that each series was made sometimes only half a dozen examples. This 5711/110P has the signature proportions of the classic 5711. However, it is crafted in solid platinum. Furthermore, it has a baguette-set bezel with matching indexes. The dial is dark grey instead of the usual blue tone. These elements significantly elevate this present lot to a trophy status.

This piece is offered in excellent condition with its accessories, making it a most important opportunity.
