Although the Cobra has now become a favourite amongst collectors who are truly in-the-know, it spent years living in the shadow of its counterpart. Indeed, one year after releasing the Cobra, Audemars Piguet launched a watch that would go on to not only reshape the brand, but the entire industry: the 5402 Royal Oak. Though the Cobra was also a shaped watch designed by the great Gerald Genta, the flame of the Royal Oak simply burned too brightly. However, as tastemaking moves more and more towards elegant and unusually shaped watches, the Cobra has finally stepped into the spotlight.
