The reference 1680 was introduced in the 1960s as part of Rolex's iconic Submariner collection. Its key distinguishing feature from earlier models, the 5513 and 5512, is the date display at 3 o’clock, along with the addition of a cyclops lens on the crystal. Powered by Rolex's self-winding mechanical movement cal. 1570, the 1680 stands as one of the most iconic designs of the 20th century. In addition, the present watch was sold exclusively by Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co. is undoubtedly the most historic and prestigious luxury retailer in the United States. In the mid-1950s, Tiffany was among a select group of retailers worldwide granted the privilege of printing their logo on the dials of Rolex’s most prestigious models. Throughout much of their partnership, Rolex permitted Tiffany to stamp their dials at their 5th Avenue location, completed by Tiffany watchmakers rather than at the Rolex factory in Switzerland. While the exact number of Tiffany-dialed Rolexes from this period is unknown, they are exceedingly rare and represent some of the most sought-after and iconic watches to ever enter the market.
