As the first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph by Patek Philippe, the reference 3970 broke with old ties and incorporated modern production techniques that the brand envisioned for its watches.
The reference 3970 consists of four series, all displaying minor variations. The present white gold example with its integrated bracelet belongs to the fourth series, distinguishable by its baton hands and markers, and the screw-down sapphire case. While around 2000 examples of the fourth series were produced between 1994-2004, only a very small number of watches throughout the reference feature an integrated bracelet, making the present watch a highly coveted variation.
