The Patek Philippe World Time has been a traveler’s dream since the first Reference 515 HU was launched in 1937. Designed for the jetset, Patek Philippe’s Heures Universelles allowed its cosmopolitan owner to know the time across the most glamorous cities around the world at the flick of a wrist.
Subsequent iterations of the Heure Universelle family became miniature wearable time capsules that chronicled the rise and fall of nations and cities. The Reference 5130, which made its debut in 2006, is a modern evolution of the beloved collection and is powered by the legendary self-winding caliber 240 HU. Introduced in the midst of the Quartz crisis in 1977, it was the thinnest self-winding caliber with an innovative design. Instead of having the rotor be an additional layer above the movement, the rotor is instead housed in the movement itself, positioned off-center in a sunken recess. To compensate for the smaller size of this design, the rotor was crafted in 22k gold with the high karat gold being heavier and more sensitive to the wearer’s movements.
The importance of the caliber 240 is evident as some of the most well-known complications produced by Patek Philippe are based on the caliber 240, including world time complication seen in the present caliber 240 HU.
Complete with its original box, Certificate of Origin and original purchase invoice, we are pleased to offer this extraordinary iteration of an iconic modern World Time reference.
