The perpetual calendar has long stood as a cornerstone of Patek Philippe’s illustrious legacy. Introduced in 1992, the Reference 5040 enjoyed an impressive 15-year production span before its discontinuation in 2007. The model was produced in two series: the first, with movement numbers beginning in the 77X-thousand range, was fitted with the caliber 240 Q, like the present example; the second, beginning with 3.12X million, housed the upgraded caliber 240 QL. Crafted in yellow, white, and pink gold, as well as platinum, the Reference 5040 was later succeeded by the round-cased References 5140J (2012) and 5140G (2014).
