The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Homage to Walter Lange was introduced in late 2017 in four metals as a tribute to the brand’s (re-)founder, Walter Lange, who passed away in January of that same year. Created in commemoration of his life’s work and enduring contribution to both the company and the wider watchmaking industry, this model finally brought to life a concept Walter Lange had long envisioned but never realized himself.

This exceptional timepiece features an independently stoppable deadbeat seconds hand alongside a separate small seconds subdial—the former operated by the pusher at 2 o’clock. This allows the wearer to synchronize the two seconds hands or stop the true-beat seconds hand at zero and use it as a chronograph, for example, to measure a pulse. The true-beat seconds with start/stop functionality would have held special meaning for Walter Lange, as this interpretation of the complication was originally invented by his great-grandfather, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, in 1867, and later refined and patented by his grandfather, Emil Lange, in 1877.

Every numerical detail of this watch pays tribute to Walter Lange. Housed in a 40.5 mm white gold case, it is powered by the hand-wound caliber L1924—a nod to his birth year. Likewise, the first three digits of the reference number, 297.078, commemorate his date of birth, 29 July. Reference 297.0261 is a limited edition of 145 pieces, symbolizing the years between the company’s founding in 1845 and its revival in 1990. We are pleased to offer no. 57 out of 145, in overall excellent condition, and complete with its suite of accessories.
