Otto Schulz’s Cabinet, designed in the 1920s, is a striking example of the Swedish Grace movement, blending classical motifs with modern elegance. Created during his time in Gothenburg, the cabinet showcases the zodiac ornamentation Schulz became known for, rendered using a unique technique called bopoint. This method involves applying intricate patterns with brass tacks, which forms the twelve signs of the zodiac across the cabinet’s surface. The result is both decorative and tactile, showcasing Schulz’s flair for craftsmanship and innovative material use. More than a functional object, the cabinet tells a symbolic story, reflecting Schulz’s interest in mythology and decorative narrative. The combination of precise technique and rich symbolism positions this piece as a highlight of early 20th-century Swedish design, marrying artistry with utility in a way that remains compelling today.
