A major figure of Finish design, Paavo Tynell is well-known for his lights to be innovative as well as refined, inspired by the poetry of nature. His famous Snowflake ceiling lamp recalls the suspended decorations Finish people traditionally used to place in their homes during the long months of winter.

Created in the middle of the 1940s, the Snowflake was produced in several versions. Ours, with its bowl in brass thinly perforated and its brass mesh flakes, captures and diffuses light in subtle variations of moving shades, giving space a welcoming and poetic atmosphere.

Presented in 1948 at the Finland House in New York, a display dedicated to promoting Finish industry, design and craftmanship, the Snowflake ceiling lamp of Paavo Tynell, produced by his manufacturing company Taito Oy, largely contributed to his recognition in the United States. Today, these ceiling lamps are amongst the most sought-after works and the most spectacular lights of the 20th century design.
