This meticulous and unusual depiction of a younger George Washington, possibly of the General at the outbreak of the Americana Revolutionary War when he was in his mid-forties, was purportedly acquired from the Thatford family, who resided in Brooklyn New York, shortly after the conclusion of World War II. The Thatford family was an integral part of the early aristocracy of New York City, having made their fortune through the coal business, and with a street bearing the family name in Brownsville, New York.
