The Rolex Submariner can truly be considered as the most iconic Rolex ever made, if not the most iconic wrist watch in the world. It set the standard for what a dive watch should look like and how it should perform, and is today one of the most collectible model lines ever made.

The first Submariner references were made in 1954, and included the 6200, 6204 and 6205. As they often tend to do when it comes to new model lines, Rolex experimented with different configurations and thus released all 3 references just a few months apart. Reference 6205 stands as the first Submariner reference to ever use the now ubiquitous ‘Mercedes’ style hour hand, and was also the first ever Rolex reference to ever feature the name “Submariner” on the dial. Both of these features were permanently adopted from the release of this reference onward, so the reference 6205 can absolutely be seen as the defining template for the icon that is the Submariner. Both the long ‘Mercedes’ style hour hand and single line ‘Submariner’ text are present and correct on this lot.

Notably, the present example was sent to the Rolex Atelier de Restauration in 2023 where the case, movement and bracelet underwent full servicing. The movement was completely disassembled, repaired and regulated, thus collectors can be sure that this watch is one of the best running vintage Rolexes on the market. The original rivet bracelet was repaired and strengthened as well, ensuring durability and tightness.

Most importantly and at great expense, the Rolex Atelier manufactured a new bezel and insert specially for this watch, with pearl matching the lume plots on the dial, and it is of great importance to state that the dial and hands were not interfered with at all during this servicing, but the dial was replaced during an earlier service.

Offered with Rolex Atelier de Restauration booklet and invoice detailing the whole procedure, collectors are sure to appreciate the historic nature of this reference, as well as the honest condition of the watch. Prospective owners can be assured that they are acquiring one of the most mechanically sound examples of one of the most important Rolex Submariner references on the market today.
