The design of this pair is similar to that of chairs supplied by the architect Henry Holland (1745-1806) to Samuel Whitbread II for the drawing room of Southill Park, Bedfordshire in 1796 (illustrated in Frances Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge 1985, pp. 44, 45).
