Papplewick Hall is a late Georgian house built in 1787 for the Whig M.P. Frederick Montagu (1733-1800), probably by the architect William Lindley of Doncaster, who had trained under John Carr of York. Montagu died unmarried, and the estate passed to his niece Catherine Judith Fountayne, whose descendants lived in the property until 1919, when it was sold to Claude and Ethel Chadburn, who likely acquired this mirror as part of their refurbishment of the house.
