Description

Château Latour 1929

Pauillac, 1er Cru Classé

u. 2ms, front labels almost entirely missing, vintage-embossed and corroded capsules

At Christmas 2021, this was absolutely dreamy, the epitome of breed, beauty and possessing an almost spiritual quality. Both provenance and keeping conditions were ideal, coming as it did from my late father-in-law's cellar. The scent spread around the room, weaving its spell and the texture on the palate was all silk and noble terroir. Truly magical and with haunting persistence, it slips down and lingers long - awe-inspiring. In 2024, amazingly, it is still so vibrant, with a wicked bouquet like a herb garden in the sun, heathery flavours and all the underlying Latour structure, even in an 'early developing' vintage! One of the wines of my life. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
