The story of Blancpain begins in the village of Villeret, having been founded by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in 1735. Although the brand produced many high-quality watches, it was not until the Fifty Fathoms model of the 1950s that they achieved their first great commercial success. However, like many of its peers, the brand succumbed to insolvency during the quartz crisis of the 1970s, before rising like a phoenix in 1983 under the leadership of the legendary Jean-Claude Biver.

Biver’s strategy was to reposition the brand as a maker of high horology and complications—famously adopting the tagline, “There has never been a quartz Blancpain, and there never will be.” It was during this rebirth that the first Blancpain flying tourbillon was produced, using the Calibre 23. This was a manually wound movement, and as demand grew for automatic watches, Blancpain rose to the occasion. The Calibre 23 was eventually replaced by the Calibre 25, as seen on this present example—an automatic version of that movement—which was reduced to just 4.86 mm thick, despite the addition of a rotor.

We are excited to offer this example in white gold, complete with its full suite of original accessories. It represents an incredible blending of haute horology and everyday practicality for someone who wishes to wear a tourbillon on a daily basis—something we can all applaud.
