The Knudsen Award commemorates the legacy of LTG William S. ‘Bill’ Knudsen. Knudsen was an automotive industry executive and Lieutenant General of the United States Army remembered for his foresight and exemplary leadership to safeguard the country against emerging threats by fortifying our defense industrial complex. His reputation and manufacturing expertise as the President of Chevrolet and then General motors led him to be appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during World War II to lead the United States’ materiel production efforts and bolster national defense capabilities. Today the Knudsen Award honors individuals across industry, military and government who embody the same visionary spirit of LGT William S. Knudsen.
The present example is a rare iteration of the Reference 1289 crafted exclusively in platinum for 1958 award recipients. The majority of the Reference 1289 are cased in gold, and examples in platinum are extremely rare. Accompanying the watch is a rare and attractive 14k white gold brick link bracelet signed C+B also crafted exclusively for accompanying the watches for the 1958 Knudsen Award. Two Patek references were presented to recipients at the award: the Reference 1289 like the present example, and the Reference 96 also cased in platinum.
