Launched in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium, the Reference 5100 was produced as a limited edition. Its distinctive flared rectangular shape draws inspiration from the 1950s Reference 2554, known as the 'Manta Ray.' After completing production, Patek Philippe destroyed all the tools and materials used to create this model, ensuring it could never be exactly reproduced.

What sets this watch apart as a modern evolution of its predecessor—beyond its size—is its remarkable 10-day power reserve. Unlike ordinary timepieces that require daily or 36-hour winding, the Reference 5100’s mechanism can run continuously for up to ten days, offering exceptional convenience to the wearer. It also holds the distinction of being Patek Philippe’s first model with a ten-day power reserve.

A total of 3,000 Reference 5100 watches were made, with 1,500 in yellow gold, 750 in pink gold, 450 in white gold, and 300 in platinum. The present lot is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming that it's cased in yellow gold.
