Introduced in 1912, the Cartier Tortue predates the iconic Tank and was among the firm’s earliest wristwatch designs. Named for its tortoise-shaped case, the model was initially produced as a simple time-only watch, with more complex variations—such as the minute repeater and monopusher chronograph—appearing in the late 1920s.
In the 21st century, the Tortue remains a key model in Cartier’s collection. The present 18k pink gold Tortue XL 8 Days reflects the modern preference for larger cases and features the manual-winding calibre 9910 MC, offering an eight-day power reserve indicated at the upper left of the dial, with a date aperture positioned at 7 o’clock.
