In the early 1940s, Breitling rose to prominence by supplying precision aviation instruments to the Allied forces through its renowned Huit Aviation department. But as World War II drew to a close, Willy Breitling recognized a shift in demand, toward chronographs that embodied elegance, optimism, and post-war sophistication. His answer was the Premier collection, launched in 1943.

Named after the French word for “first,” the Premier set a new benchmark in watchmaking. It marked a transition for the chronograph, moving it beyond the cockpit and into civilian life, combining technical prowess with refined aesthetics, luxurious materials, and advanced calibers. The Premier line continues to embody this legacy, uniting timeless design with modern craftsmanship.

The present example features a rich black dial that contrasts beautifully with a polished pink gold case and stylized Arabic numerals. It is a testament to Breitling’s ability to transform a tool watch into a statement of classic elegance.
