Originally introduced in the 1990s, Piaget’s first Gouverneur collection comprised three models—a Chronometer, a Perpetual Calendar, and a Chronograph—each housed in an elegant, classically proportioned round case measuring between 33 and 35 mm in diameter, with beautifully sculpted lugs suited to the tastes of the era. Revived circa 2012, the modern Gouverneur collection was reimagined on a bold contemporary scale with a 43 mm case, while retaining the design codes that define the line. Its signature aesthetic is the harmonious interplay between a round case and oval bezel, echoed by an oval dial layout with a rounded inner dial—an arrangement that creates a unique sense of visual equilibrium and refined balance, enhanced by a wealth of subtle, expertly finished details.
At 12 o’clock, the flying tourbillon, bearing Piaget’s stylized “P,” completes one revolution per minute and serves as the running seconds display, while a moon phase indication at 6 o’clock requires correction by just one day every 122 years. Powering the watch is Piaget’s ultra-thin in-house Caliber 642P, measuring only 4 mm in height, with an exceptionally slim and lightweight flying tourbillon (2.8 mm high and just 0.2 grams), underscoring the manufacture’s legendary mastery of ultra-thin watchmaking. The movement is entirely hand-finished, featuring circular-grained mainplate, beveled and hand-drawn bridges, a finely finished tourbillon carriage, and blued screws throughout.
The present pink gold Gouverneur Tourbillon (No 35) is further distinguished by its lavish diamond-set bezel, adorned with 128 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 1.4 carats, arranged in a refined double-row setting that enhances both the wider and narrower sections of the bezel.
