In the early 1980s, Ernest Schneider, who had been leading Breitling since 1979, discovered that the prestigious Italian Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team was in search of a new chronograph tailored for its pilots. The ideal timepiece needed to strike a balance between refined style for wear off-duty and the rugged durability required in the high-stress environment of a jet cockpit. It also had to feature a mechanical movement, as the team specifically wanted an analog display, something quartz watches of that era couldn’t deliver. Rather than modifying an existing design, Schneider set out to develop an entirely new chronograph crafted specifically to meet the team's unique requirements.
The present lot exemplifies the integrity of utility and design, standing as a testament to Breitling's commitment to functionality without compromising on aesthetic sophistication.
