First launched in 1995, the Breitling Blackbird chronograph draws direct inspiration from the legendary Lockheed SR-71 “Blackbird” spy plane, an iconic aircraft developed in secrecy during the Cold War. Introduced as a stealthier variant within the Chronomat family, the Blackbird stood out with its distinctive all-brushed stainless steel case and bracelet, forgoing the high-polish finishes of its sibling models.
The reference A13050 features a matte, monochromatic dial that further emphasizes its utilitarian aesthetic. Key details include the ‘Blackbird’ inscription near the date window at 3 o’clock, and a red Serie Speciale arc above the 6 o’clock register, both distinguishing features unique to this early edition.
Over the decades, the Blackbird has undergone various updates, yet each version retains the bold, aviation-inspired DNA that makes it one of Breitling’s most striking chronographs. The present example is offered in very good condition and is accompanied by its full original set, making it a compelling addition for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
