The predecessor of Cartier Baignoire was originally created in 1912 by Louis Cartier and quickly became a hallmark of Cartier's timeless design aesthetic with the introduction of the Ovale Cintré in 1958. The name Baignoire, meaning 'bathtub' in French, was first coined in 1973 after its unique oval shape. Its refined curves and clean lines that have remained daringly modern for over a hundred years made the Baignoire a design that the Maison has returned to over and over again, such as with the massively successful launch of the Baignoire Bangle in 2023.
The Reference 78094 was produced from the 1970s to the 1980s, and reflects a pivotal moment in the Maison's history. With the death of the last of the three Cartier brothers, Pierre Cartier in 1964, Cartier’s global businesses in New York, London and Paris were sold separately, and the three branches wouldn't be reunited until 1976. The present Baignoire Reference 78094 was thus most likely produced during this exciting new era of Cartier's history.
The well preserved case and dial along is paired with its original 10mm Cartier deployant clasp. Its sculpted oval case, Roman numerals, and blued steel hands coupled with its unisex proportions wears effortlessly and embodies a refined elegance on the wrist.
