The Rolex Daytona stands as one of the most celebrated wristwatch designs in horological history, its many references and variations drawing generations of collectors. Among them, the manually wound Daytonas remain the most coveted, representing the earliest and most authentic expression of the model. Early four-digit references, from 6239 through 6264, featured non-Oyster cases with pump pushers, while later references 6263 and 6265 introduced the first Oyster cases, incorporating screw-down pushers and greater water resistance, giving them a more substantial presence on the wrist.

The present reference 6263 is fitted with the highly sought-after “Big Red” dial, distinguished by the bold red Daytona signature above the 6 o’clock sub-dial. Earlier examples of the reference omitted the designation entirely, while later service dials featured the smaller “Little Red” print. The vivid and distinctive “Big Red” configuration has become one of the most recognizable and desirable among collectors.
