Founded in 1980 by Carlo Crocco, MDM Genève introduced its first model, the Hublot—named after the French word for “porthole.” Inspired by maritime design, it featured a distinctive bezel construction and was the first wristwatch to incorporate a natural rubber strap. The unconventional pairing of a quartz movement and precious metal case challenged industry norms yet quickly gained a following, leading Crocco to adopt Hublot as the brand name.
The present example, a yellow gold reference from the 1990s, stays true to the spirit of the original design.
