Originally launched in 1957 with the ref.2915, before the Apollo missions catapulted the watch to stratospheric fame, the Omega Speedmaster was built as true tool watch.
The ref.145.022 came at a time with Swiss watchmakers were beginning to feel the pressure of the Japanese Quartz movement. The new reference updated to the calibre 861 in order to ride the wave of moon landing hype and increase the production numbers. Many will argue that this reference is the last of the true collectable vintage Speedmasters.
