Legend has it that in the 1930s, the Pasha of Marrakesh, Thami El Glaoui, ordered a one-of-a-kind watch from Louis Cartier. He required a robust timepiece to match his active lifestyle. The result was a large watch with a crown cover and metal grill to protect the dial. While there is no substantive proof of this tale, the name has been confirmed to honor the late Pasha.

In the 1980s, to create a new sporty model, Cartier enlisted the help of legendary watch designer Gerald Genta to design the model. The result is the now iconic Pasha watch with its large case, distinct bezel, and as in the case of this example, metal grill. The current lot comes with its Cartier presentation box and outer packaging.
