Description

The rectangular cuboid pendant composed of various compressed pre-existing gold jewels including chains and a textured gold bear embellished with a cabochon ruby eye, signed César, French maker's and assay marks for gold, French import mark for gold.

César Baldaccini (1921-1998)

From the 1960s onward, the French sculptor César compacted cars and then went on to use all kinds of materials including paper, fabrics and even the family jewels. Women would bring him their love tokens, crosses and chains so that they could be reduced to a mini sculpture. In each entanglement of gold pearls and diamonds can be found, along with a whole life’s story.
