Description
Christian Dior Pink and Silver Satin Brocaded Gown, circa 1958, London labelled and numbered 16039, empire-line bodice, belt with bow, tulip-shaped skirt, corset and petticoats to interior, bust: 34in, 86cm
Property of a British lady who was Principal Private Secretary to the British Ambassador in Washington DC for 5 years. It is believed that she worked for the Hon. Sir David Ormsby-Gore, British ambassador 1961-1965 therefore during John F. Kennedy's Presidency and after his assassination in 1963. Having to attend many official functions, including those held at the The White House, she required a fine wardrobe. It was unusual for a woman to hold the position of Principal Private Secretary during this time. She had an interesting life and career in the foreign office with time spent in many countries, including Afghanistan, and remained in Washington DC until her death.
