Description

the body and hinged lid with four circular cartouches finely engraved with scenes of Samson and Delilah: the body depicting Samson departing to the cities of the Philistines, his wedding banquet, and Delilah cutting Samson's locks as he sleeps; the cover depicting Samson seduced by Delilah, each framed by shells, rocailles and foliate motifs, on a gilt ground, the scroll handle with split flared thumb-piece, on three ball feet, struck under base with maker's initials, also with indistinct scratch weight
