Description

stylistically carved in rose-quartz with its legs tucked in and tongue out, the curves of its nose, eyebrows and ears exaggerated, with demantoid garnet-set eyes

length 4.7 cm; 1 7/8 in.

Bulldogs were a popular subject amongst Fabergé's lapidary artisans. They were often modelled seated and care was taken to preserve their characteristic large noses and thick eyebrow folds. Their charming and humoristic qualities must have appealed to Fabergé clientele, including the British Royal family, whose collection boasts a total of seven bulldog models in various semi-precious stones.
