Description

Laphroaig Capsule 40 Year Old

  • Laphroaig Capsule 40 Year Old has been created from spirit distilled in 1980 and 1981.

  • This is the joint oldest release ever from the Laphroaig distillery.

  • Matured in Oloroso sherry seasoned hogsheads and ex-bourbon American oak hogsheads for 25 years before being vatted together in hogsheads for a further 15 years and finally bottling at 46.5% abv.

  • Presented in a striking, 1.5 Litre glass structure, this handcrafted magnum features a coated brass cap, creating a unique vessel.

  • Laphroaig Capsule 40-Year-Old is one of final whiskies from the distillery before the new stillhouse was up and running in the early 1980s.

  • The lot includes a 10cl sample for the winning bidder.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Soft peach, baked apple, rich and viscous manuka honey, charred citrus fruit notes of orange rind intertwined with charred tropical fruit notes of pineapple. Underneath this there are notes of soft fig, milk chocolate orange, sweet star anise spice along with hints of demerara cane sugar, crisp pastry and creamy vanilla ice cream.

Taste: Sweet and voluptuous on the mouthfeel, with floral spice initially, this dissipates to characters of aniseed, liquorice root, blackcurrant, stewed cranberries, honeycomb biscuits and homemade orange marmalade.

Finish: Sweet, slight peppery yet soft leading to a long, signature smoke with a nod to Lapsang Souchong tea leaves.

1 bottle 1.5 litre + 1 sample 10cl (presentation case)
