Sturec, an Istanbul-based artist and engineer, has carved a distinctive niche in the digital art realm by seamlessly blending traditional painting techniques with generative art, illustrations, and animations. Her creations delve into the complexities of human psychology, emotions, and experiences, often characterized by bold colors and intricate geometric patterns.
In June 2021, Sturec unveiled Sail-o-bots, a generative art collection comprising 750 unique interactive animations, on the Art Blocks platform. Each piece features whimsical robotic figures, known as Sail-o-bots, perched on their tiny boats against animated seascapes. These bots, described as the "mischief of the sea," embody themes inspired by Maslow's hierarchy of needs, reflecting on concepts of identity, purpose, and self-discovery.
The Sail-o-bots project is rooted in the generative art piece "Strange Robots" by Che-Yu Wu. Sturec expanded upon Wu's original code, introducing custom variables for glasses and lips, adding ten unique color palettes, and modifying features like antennas, ears, and noses to create diverse geometric shapes. This fusion of coding and artistic vision resulted in a collection that is both playful and introspective.
Through Sail-o-bots, Sturec invites viewers to engage with multifaceted narratives, encouraging exploration of self and the digital world's role in shaping contemporary identity.
