The sculpture is part of the series of stoneware and steel sculptures that Caro titled ’The Way It Is’, which were shown at Kenwood House, Hampstead, in 2004. The stoneware elements were made in collaboration with the ceramicist, Hans Spinner, at his studio near Grasse in the South of France.
