Kändler designed this model in various sizes for Frederick II of Prussia (see K. Berling, Meissen China, an illustrated story, New York, 1972, pp. 52 and 56). A pair of similar vases was sold at Sotheby's in Paris, Doha/Paris, Un Décor Princier, on 30 June 2021, lot 174 (€252,000).
