Sale Ferri, Paris, 10 June 2016, lot 147

The figures representing Reading and Writing were modelled by Louis-Simon Boizot (1743–1809) to be produced in biscuit porcelain at the Sèvres factory in 1776. The bronze artist François Rémond produced this model of clock around 1785–1790, with some examples being sold by the haberdasher Daguerre. A very precise drawing of this clock, probably from Rémond's commercial catalogue, is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 295.
