Xu Beihong (1895 - 1953), Cat on a Rock with Banana Leaves
ink and colour on paper, hanging scroll
signed Beihong with a dedication to Sir James Stewart Lockhart, dated jiaxu year (1934) and with two seals
115 x 52 cm, 45¼ by 20½ in.
Gifted to Sir James Stewart Lockhart (1858-1937) by the artist, and thence by descent to his daughter, Mary Stewart Lockhart (1894-1985).
Gifted by the above to George Watson's College, Edinburgh, 1967.
National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh, 2003-2025 (on loan).
