Description

comprising fifty-nine coins, most of 'knife' pattern, probably Eastern Zhou dynasty, together with a hardwood campaign cabinet with nine removable trays, circa 1921 (69)


Length of longest 17 cm, 6¾ in.

Assembled by Sir James Stewart Lockhart (1858-1937), the cabinet commissioned by him from a local Chinese cabinetmaker, and thence by descent to his daughter, Mary Stewart Lockhart (1894-1985).

Gifted by the above to George Watson's College, Edinburgh, 1967.
