A rare yellow jade turtle, Shang dynasty

This pendant was probably used as a clasp at the fastening of a necklace. A closely related Shang dynasty hardstone carving of a turtle from the collection of Dr. Ralph C. Marcove was sold at Christie's New York, 29th November 1990, lot 1, and more recently, 21st March 2025, lot 1009.
