Third edition, small 8vo (142 x 94 mm), gothic type, title-page within woodcut architectural border, extensively annotated in a contemporary hand, contemporary dark brown English calf, lozenge design stamped in blind to covers, vellum pastedowns comprised of thirteenth-century liturgical manuscript leaves with musical notation in red, blue, and black ink, annotations in first two gatherings partially washed, some slight marginal worming, rebacked and reinforced at hinges, recornered


A fascinating copy of this popular work of instruction for nobility, WITH EXTENSIVE CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH MANUSCRIPT NOTES in margins and to terminal blank, the latter providing a biographical commentary on Alexander Severus.
