Description

of the third size, painted with gilt-edged oval panels of chinoiserie figures at various pursuits, enriched in gilding, the lilac ground with laurel garland borders and trellis panels, gilt rims, crowned interlaced LL marks in puce enclosing dater letter Z for 1777, above painter's mark LG for Louis-Antoine Le Grand, LC in blue enamel , incised f to cup and L to saucer


Height of cup: 6 cm (2 ⅜ in) ; Diameter of saucer: 12 cm (4 ¾ in)

Louis-Antoine Le Grand was active as a painter and gilder at Sèvres between 1776 and 1824, specializing in figures, chinoiserie decoration, birds, flowers and patterns. A pink-ground gobelet 'litron' and saucer, painted by Le Grand with similar chinoiserie scenes, was sold at Christie's New York, 22 October 2020, lot 59 and another was sold at Sotheby’s, Paris, 25 September 2024, lot 76.
