Description

Chrysocolla and Malachite Pair

Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Chrysocolla and malachite specimens measure 8¾ x 5¾ x 2½ inches (22.2 x 14.6 x 6.4 cm) and 7½ x 5¼ x 2¼ inches (19.1 x 13.3 x 5.7 cm), 10½ inches (26.7 cm) and 10¼ inches (26 cm) tall on stand. Each specimen weighs 4 pounds (1.81 kg).

This pair of free form chrysocolla and malachite specimens have been polished on the display side to reveal the botryoidal structure of dark green malachite within larger spans of chrysocolla. Although chrysocolla is more commonly the associated mineral within a malachite specimen, these two free forms show the more uncommon relationship in which chrysocolla is the dominant of the two copper minerals.
