In 1982, Steven Lisberger’s TRON ushered computer created visuals into the filmmaking process. That said, many of the film's outstanding visual effects were achieved the old-fashioned way, one hand tooled frame at a time. A prime example was the use of kodalith, a very specialized, high contrast film that could be used to mask or reveal areas. Large format kodaliths were created from the negatives of each live action frame. Then, by backlighting the kodaliths and optically compositing that resultant film with the live action footage, the glowing circuitry that is part of the video game environment, so important to the look, feel and theme of the film, was achieved.

The two kodaliths that make up the present lot depict the protagonist, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), who has infiltrated the Master Control Program's core as part of the climactic effort to destroy the MPC's control of the digital world. Both Kodaliths are marked with what appear to be the production sequence and frame numbers.
