TOGETHER WITH
During the early stages of development of Wolfwalkers, Robyn Goodfellowe, the main character, was a boy. The preliminary drawing included in the present lot shows Robyn running with his father Bill, who has been transformed into a wolf. As work progressed on the film, directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart realized the story would be more powerful if it centered on a girl who fought against the constraints Cromwell’s Puritan regime imposed on women in Ireland. Moore modelled the transformed character after his wife, Liselott Olofsson as a girl. The dramatic drawing showcases the bold graphic stylization that characterizes the work of the Cartoon Saloon artists.
This drawing is reproduced on page 53 of The Art of Wolfwalkers by Charles Solomon (Abrams).
